2001 SAC Group PhotoThe 2002 conference, themed: "Communicating Without Limits" provides an inspirational weekend of networking, fellowship, sharing of ideas, professional growth, and worship and praise through educational workshops, keynote speakers, panel discussions, a Hawaiian-themed safari dinner, an awards ceremony, special interest group tours, booth exhibits, and more! Come create new relationships and renew old ones. Come share how you and your organization are communicating the gospel of Jesus Christ! Come have fun in Southern California! Program highlights below.


DATES: October 10-13, 2002 (Thursday, 5 p.m. - Sunday, 11 a.m.). Note Thursday's and Sunday's schedule for additional events you may wish to attend.

STEP 1 - REGISTRATION: To register, visit www.plusline.org or call 800-732-7587. Cost: $140 per person (spouses, $90; students, $65) through September 17. $165 per person (spouses, $100; students, $75) September 18-October 8. Registration fees cover all seminars and tours, the San Diego Wild Animal Park, and the following meals: Thursday night reception, Friday supper, Sabbath lunch, and Saturday night banquet.

STEP 2 - HOTEL INFO: Country Suites by Ayres, 1935 E. Holt Blvd., Ontario, California 91764. Phone: (800) 248-4661. $79 per night for up to four people per room. Breakfast buffet included. Please ask for Society of Adventist Communicators rate.

STEP 3 - AIRLINE TICKETS: Fly to Ontario International Airport, Ontario, California. It is just minutes away from the hotel. Other airports you might wish to check are LAX and John Wayne, however both are more than an hour away from the Country Suites hotel.


Exhibit HallEXHIBITS: Display booths will be featured again this year. If you'd like to have a low-maintenance display (meaning you won't miss programs), call Bryan Bell at (509) 527-2337.

GIVEAWAYS/SPONSORSHIPS: SAC is looking for organizations to donate items for giveaways or to sponsor a meal or event. Interested parties should contact Celeste Ryan. There are three options:

  1. Donate a small item (such as a free pen or notepad) with enough for everyone in attendance that will be put on table settings at various meals (plan for 200).
  2. Donate three (3) items valued at $20-$25 that will be given away in drawings. All conference attendees can register for drawings at onsite registration. Drawings will take place at various times throughout the weekend.
  3. Sponsor a meal for maximum promotional opportunity, inquire for details.


THURSDAY HIGHLIGHTS: Registration is tentatively scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. A 7 p.m. hors d'oevre reception will give everyone the chance to meet and network. Also note that there is an all-day crisis seminar sponsored by the North American Division on Thursday. It is separate from the SAC convention and you can register at www.plusline.org.

FRIDAY HIGHLIGHTS:

Each SIG will participate in either a tour or a seminar related to their specific field of interest. **If you are interested in the Video/Film/Screenwriters group, please contact Stew Harty to reserve space.

Afternoon workshops will include crisis case studies, ethics issues, education research, building a website from scratch, new print production techniques, freedom of speech issues, and packaging ideas and pitching stories for editors.

The keynote speaker for Friday evening is Ted Baehr, owner/producer of MovieGuide (http://www.movieguide.org/), a website and magazine which reviews current movies from a Christian angle.

SABBATH HIGHLIGHTS:
Panel DiscussionAnyone interested may carpool or bus to nearby Clairmont College for an early morning nature walk in the botanical gardens. Worship will include the Bill Chunestudy Octet and speaker/facilitator Dave Gemmell.

Following lunch, buses will board for a trip to the San Diego Wild Animal Park (included in your registration fee). We will have an afternoon tour, vespers with Jerry Thomas, and a safari dinner at the park. An award presentation and entertainment by a Hawaiian group will round out the evening. Plan to bring Hawaiian wear—flowered shirts, muumuus, grass skirts, etc. Prizes will be awarded for the best outfit and for the winner of the hula contest!

SUNDAY HIGHLIGHTS:
Worship with Lena Nozizwe and her mother will be followed by a business meeting to present the progress in our growth as an international organization and to vote on officers. The business meeting should conclude by 11 a.m., so you will want to schedule your return flights for afternoon.
